WEDNESDAY 8.18.10 ON CLASSICAL DISCOVERIES AND CLASSICAL DISCOVERIES GOES AVANT-GARDE from WPRB
Our host and teacher Marvin Rosen tells us, “This Wednesday, August 18, 2010 from 5:30am till 3:00pm Classical Discoveries and WPRB will be celebrating the works of women composers from all over the world in a program titled:
some selections will include: Psalm L by Italian Composer, Antonia Bembo (c.1640-c.1720), <em>Passage for Piano (2000) by English Composer, Rosemary Duxbury, San Rocco for Oboe d’amore, Percussion and Chamber Choir (1991), by Canadian Composer, Melissa Hui (1966- ), Symphony for the Great Symphonic Orchestra (2008) by Polish Composer, Weronika Ratusinska (1977- ) plus music of Sister Marie Keyrouz, Hilary Tann and Gwyneth Walker.
The highlight of the program from 8:30am till 12:00pm will be a live interview with American composer, organist, harpsichordist and educator, Barbara Harbach . Included will be The Soul of Ra for String Orchestra (2005/2006), Frontier Fancies for Violin and Orchestra (2007), One Of Ours – A Cather Symphony (2004) plus selections from an upcoming release of the composer’s chamber music.
In the Avant-Garde Edition starting at 12:00 noon you will hear Symphony No. 7 (1990) by American Composer, Gloria Coates (1938- ), Mirrors (2005) for Chamber Ensemble by American Composer, Eleanor Cory (1943- ), Songs of Space by Serbian Composer, Ljubica Maric (1909-2003) plus music of Elizabeth Bell, Dorthee Eberhardt and Eleanor Hovda.
