Bang On A Can – New Releases

“This summer, Cantaloupe Music will release the debut from New York City’s Asphalt Orchestra, Bang on a Can’s street band. Since it launched with five packed shows at Lincoln Center Out of Doors last year, Asphalt Orchestra has won over audience members and garnered glowing reviews from The New York Times, Economist, and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The 12-piece group of brass and percussion re-imagines the marching band, drawing repertoire from rock, jazz and classical with captivating new arrangements of Björk, Swedish metal pioneers Meshuggah, American experimental composer Frank Zappa, and jazz legend Charles Mingus.

The recording was made live-in-studio and also includes new music written for the band by Tyondai Braxton (Battles), Stew and Heidi Rodewald (The Negro Problem and Spike Lee’s Passing Strange), and celebrated Balkan wedding band master Goran Bregovic.”

Tristan Perich 1-Bit Symphony

1-Bit Music (2004-2005), a project by composer and artist Tristan Perich, probes the foundations of digital sound.

An electronic circuit is assembled inside a CD case with a headphone jack on the side. The device plays back 40 minutes of low-fi 1-bit electronic music—the lowest possible digital representation of audio.

Perich works with the same chips to create 1-Bit Video and his machine drawings, pen-on-paper drawings executed by machine that explore randomness and order.”

Available now, the CD from Cantaloupe Music $29.00 or as a limited art edition. The .mp3 is available at Amazon $8.99
