The Detroit International Jazz Festival and WBGO Celebrate 31 Years!
WBGO Goes to Detroit is a 4-hour musical special that will air and stream Monday, September 6th from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. (EST) with MidDay Jazz host Rhonda Hamilton on WBGO Jazz 88.3 FM and wbgo.org .
Pianist/composer Danilo Perez launches his new CD Providencia with his quintet featuring: Rudresh Mahanthappa (sax); Ben Street (bass); Adam Cruz (drums) and Rogerio Boccato (percussion) “The word providence for me means standing up for the future of the next generation of children”. – Danilo Perez
Alto saxophonist Tia Fuller will play music from her latest CD Decisive Steps with her group: Shamie Royston (piano); Rudy Royston (drums) and Mimi Sullivan (bass)
Pianist Mulgrew Miller is this year’s Artist-in-Residence. His set with the current configuration of
Wingspan: Steve Nelson (vibes); Duane Eubanks (trumpet); Steve Wilson (alto saxophone); Ivan Taylor
(bass) and Rodney Green (drums) will be our feature at 4 p.m.

The Hot Club of Detroit – Evan Perri & Paul Brady (guitars); Carl Cafagna (sax); Julian Labro (accordion)
and Andrew Katzat (bass) – will play a set in the style of the great Django Reinhardt (1910-54).
Hot Pepper is baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan’s tribute to Michigan-born, Detroit-raised Pepper Adams (1930-86).
