Cued Up on Q2 Special: New Music of the Americas Highlights from Americas Society Past Seasons with Music Director, Sebastián Zubieta

Sunday, October 24, 2010 on line at Q2

But why wait?

The archive is up at Q2, and Q2 says, “I’ve programmed this episode of Cued Up as a summary of the past few years of New Music programming in the Music of the Americas concert series. As I revisited the recordings, some of them done in 2007, I was reminded of the variety of the performers that have explored music from the Americas.

The recordings are by some of the most exciting New Music groups in New York, including the JACK and Momenta quartets, counter)induction and the Bugallo-Williams Piano Duo, guitarist Piraí Vaca and percussionist Eduardo Leandro. We will also hear recordings by Montreal’s Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (NEM), which is playing two concerts in New York this week.

The music ranges from Cuban composer Orlando Jacinto Garcia’s evocative trio Horizontes imaginados to the meditations on gesture and silence of Cergio Purdencio’s Transfiguraciones and the premiere of Jorge Villavicencio Grossman’s String Quartet No. 3. Also on the show are two recordings by the NEM, Domeniconi’s classic Koyunbaba by the Bolivian virtuoso Piraí Vaca and the timbral experimentations of Daniel Almeda’s Linde (Edge).
