Here is what Q2 has to tell us, “Versatility is the name of the game when it comes to career longevity in New York’s thriving musical scene and jazz singer and composer Theo Bleckmann has more than enough to go around. In this September 22 performance at (Le) Poisson Rouge, Bleckmann presents his latest project, Hello Earth! – the music of Kate Bush, joined by John Hollenbeck (percussion), Skuli Sverrisson (bass), Henry Hey (keys, vocals) and Caleb Burhans (violin, guitar, vocals).

Hello Earth! – the music of Kate Bush is intended not to be a mere re-creation of the songbook of British pop star Kate Bush, but is an opportunity for the multi-talented Bleckmann to experiment with the infinite interpretive possibilities available and to put his own creative stamp on the songs. Known for his ability to work in a number of styles including jazz, folk, rock and of course, classical contemporary music, Bleckmann’s resume includes spending 15 years as a core member of Meredith Monk’s ensemble and collaborations with the likes of Laurie Anderson, Michael Tilson Thomas, Bang on a Can All-stars, John Zorn, Michael Gordon, Phil Kline and Ikue Mori.”

I rarely speak myself when I present these gifts from Q2 to the listening audience. And vocal music is not my normal fare. But I am listening as I write this. This work is extremely pleasant and listenable. It is nice to understand the lyric. I highly recommend this concert material for your listening pleasure.
